Hand Bells

Handbells

The Combe St. Nicholas handbells date from about 1890 and have been frequently, but not continuously, used for many years.

The present group of ringers was formed in 2007. During this time, we have had the bells completely overhauled at Whitechapel Foundry, thanks to the support of many groups, organisations and individuals. The original set was of 12 bells in the key of D Major but we have fortunately been able to add two more bells, which greatly increases our repertoire.

Several of our ringers do not read musical notation so we use a numerical system at the moment. We play a wide range of music – classical, popular songs, hymns etc. Some pieces are arranged to be played with other instruments such as keyboard, drums and xylophone!

Anyone interested in handbell ringing should contact me on 01460 66449, where I would be happy to talk to them and perhaps persuade them to come and join us.
