Events organised this year by Gala have been as follows:-

  • Moviola has continued from January to June and September to November. I must thank Helen Rose who once again was our contact name with Moviola to discuss dates and preview films; and to Gerry for his conversations with Jonathan our projectionist and for preparing the hall. Following Moviola reviewing their charges from April 2014 it was decided at the end of the year to increase the price of tickets from £5 to £6 as we now need 52 people in attendance before we started to make a profit. (previously had been 40 needed before we started to make a profit) The raffle, organised by Anne, and the sale of choc ices proved to be an essential part of any profits made.

  • Quiz nights in the Green Dragon were held in March, September and November so we have to thank Heather Margetts once again for devising the questions for all of these and to her raffle helpers. Thank you to Carole for providing the advertising 'A' frame.

  • April 21st saw an Easter egg hunt (by kind permission of Ros and Richard Roderigo in their garden) and Easter bonnet competition, judged by Ros. Refreshments were served provided by members and a café was laid out in the Village Hall. This was well supported by families.

  • December 6th saw the lighting of our annual Christmas tree. We provided mulled wine (thanks to Pam Martin), hot chocolate (thanks to Carole) and hot mince pies and sausage rolls (thanks to members). Once again Chard Concert Brass were in attendance and we had the usual readings and carols led by Rev Sue Tucker. Our most grateful thanks once again to Daragh for sourcing and collecting the tree on his van, for the sound system and checking the lights and for Gerry in helping get the tree up, decorated and onto the Green.

Money in 2014 has been donated to:

  • Village Hall Toilet Project £500.00

Thanks must be expressed to Anne Hunt in her role as treasurer.

I have prepared this report from my own notes and from 2014 Gala minutes so please excuse any inaccuracies, particularly in naming any individuals I have neglected to mention for their help this year. Working for Gala is both rewarding and satisfying, but once again we have to appeal for more volunteers to join the committee in order to spread the work of annual ongoing jobs, which are necessary in holding our Gala events.

The principal aim of the Gala is to enrich the life of the Combe and Wadeford community by providing a variety of events and entertainment. Not everything we arrange makes a profit but whatever profit is made is donated back to good causes in the Parish.

Thank you for attending our Gala AGM tonight. We shall be open to any suggestions for events to be held in 2015. Thank you to anyone who has helped in any way to raise our funds during 2014.
